4 Nations: Day Four Preview

4 August, 2023

The semi-final line-up is set at the 4 Nations Para Badminton International in Sheffield with a busy day of last four action ready to get underway on Saturday.

Subhan Subhan and Rina Marlina will be back in action in SH6 mixed doubles action, having received a quarter-final bye following an impressive round robin stage.

But a return to court will not be easy for the Indonesians, who face experienced Indian pairing Krishna Nagar and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan for a place in Sunday’s final.

The second semi-final pits home favourites Jack Shephard and Rachel Choong versus Natthapong Meechai and Chai Saeyang, the Thai pairing having also had a last eight bye.

Syakuroh Qonitah Ikhtiar takes on Mandeep Kaur in women’s SL3 semi-final action, while Manasi Girishchandra Joshi faces Halime Yildiz in the second semi-final.

While Choong and Marlina may end up facing off in the mixed doubles final, they will take to court against each other on Saturday in the SH6 women’s singles semi-finals.

The second semi-final sees Giuliana Poveda Flores and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan face off, after both women eased through their quarter-final clashes on Friday.

Alongside Shephard and Coombs, English interest also extends to Krysten Coombs in the SH6 men’s singles semi-final.

Coombs faces rising star Miles Krajewski of the USA in his semi-final, while pre-tournament favourite Krishna Nagar is up against Brazil’s Vitor Tavarez.

In women’s WH1 action, Sarina Satomi looks well placed to continue her recent dominance in the discipline as she gears up for a last four clash against Swiss shuttler Cynthia Mathez.

While in the other semi-final, resurgent former world champion and Paralympic silver medallist Sujirat Pookkham takes on Kwon Hyunah.

In the men’s SL3 singles competition, world No.1 Dan Bethell will continue his quest for a title on home semi-final with a last four clash against Mongkhon Bunsun.

While in the other semi-final, Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat will face Indian compatriot Kumar Nitesh in one of two matches the former will play.

He and mixed doubles partner Manisha Ramadass also face an-all Indian encounter on Saturday, with a semi-final against Ruthick Ragupathi and Manasi Girishchandra Joshi.

And the other SL3 mixed doubles semi-final is an all-Indonesian affair, with Fredy Setiawan and Khalimatus Sadiyah playing Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila for a place in Sunday’s final.

The 4 Nations is being held with special thanks to Yonex – the Official Equipment Partner of the 4 Nations Para Badminton International.
